The Tradition

Heat where the healing stalls

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain and stagnation often come from cold and blocked flow. Moxibustion burns dried mugwort (moxa) near — never on — specific acupuncture points, driving deep, penetrating warmth into the channels. The heat moves qi and blood, relaxes tissue, and awakens the body's healing response where circulation has stalled.

1
The points

Joshua selects the acupuncture points your condition calls for — often alongside a needle treatment.

2
The moxa

Dried mugwort is shaped and lit, held near the point or atop a needle — warmth builds slowly and deeply.

3
The flow

Heat moves qi and blood through the channel — circulation improves, tissue relaxes, pain eases.

What It Helps

Warmth with a purpose

Cold-type joint & muscle pain
Chronic low back pain
Poor circulation
Digestive sluggishness
Fatigue & low vitality
Menstrual discomfort

Moxibustion is usually woven into an acupuncture session — the needles open the channels, the moxa warms them. Ask Joshua whether your treatment plan calls for it.

Moxibustion FAQ

Questions, answered honestly

No — the moxa is held or placed near the point, never on bare skin. You feel a deep, pleasant warmth; your practitioner monitors the heat constantly.

Burning mugwort has a distinctive earthy, herbal aroma — most clients find it calming, and the room is well ventilated.

Usually together — moxibustion amplifies an acupuncture treatment by warming the points the needles open. Joshua will include it when your plan calls for it.

Anyone with cold-type pain — stiff joints that hate winter, chronic low back pain, poor circulation, digestive sluggishness — plus fatigue and general vitality support.

No — we practice indirect moxa: the burning mugwort never touches you. You feel a pleasant, penetrating warmth over each point, and your practitioner removes it well before it's ever hot on the skin.
