Understanding TCM

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete system of healing practiced for over two thousand years. It views the body as an interconnected whole, where health depends on the balanced flow of energy — qi — through the body's meridians. When that flow is blocked or depleted, symptoms appear. TCM practitioners restore balance using acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion, and therapeutic bodywork.

Eastern Approach
Patterns & balance
Lens: the whole person — how symptoms, sleep, digestion, and stress connect as one pattern.
Goal: restore the body's own balance so it can heal itself, and prevent illness before it takes hold.
Tools: acupuncture, herbs, cupping, moxibustion, dietary and lifestyle guidance.
Western Approach
Diagnosis & treatment
Lens: the specific condition — identified through examination, labs, and imaging.
Goal: treat the diagnosed cause directly with measurable, evidence-based interventions.
Tools: medications, hormone therapy, injections, physical therapies, and procedures.

Neither approach has to exclude the other. Many of our clients use TCM for chronic pain, stress, and prevention while working with our Western providers on diagnostics and treatment — one plan, two traditions.

Whole-Person Care

East and West, under one roof

Your acupuncturist and your nurse practitioner work steps apart. Pair Traditional Chinese Medicine with hormone optimization, or follow dry needling with a mineral soak — healing at River's Edge doesn't make you choose a side.

Why River's Edge

One roof, every discipline

Medical oversight

Clinical services run under the direction of Ashley Sutton, FNP-MSN — spa comfort with medical standards behind it.

East meets West

Day spa, medspa, Western medicine, and Eastern medicine under one roof — your plan can draw from all four.

On the Animas

Every visit ends riverside — linger in the River Room or on the rooftop instead of rushing back to the car.

Not Just an Appointment

An experience on the banks of the Animas

Come early or stay after — order a tea, a glass of wine, or a light bite from the spa menu, watch the river from the lounge, and let the visit breathe. This is how healing should feel: unhurried, riverside, yours.

Where to Start
