Eastern medicine is not a side offering here — it sits in the same building, and often the same treatment plan, as labs, imaging referrals, and hormone care. Practitioners tell us the cross-referral is the part they did not expect.

The honest pitch: this role shapes how a visit feels more than any single treatment does. A guest who was greeted well and whose booking was handled properly arrives at their appointment already relaxed. One who was not, does not.
Per hour plus commission on retail items and memberships sold
This role can sit entirely on the spa side, entirely on the medical side, or straddle both — which is unusual and is genuinely the reason people take it. Facials in the morning, laser under supervision in the afternoon, if that is what you want to build.

This is one job across two businesses with opposite seasons — and our first choice is a massage therapist who does not want to stop doing massage. The Rooftop Lounge is busiest when Durango is full — summer, when the town triples and the patio does not empty until it is dark. The spa and medspa fill up the other half of the year, when the mountain opens and everyone comes back indoors. So the person we are hiring schedules bar staff through the summer and spa staff through the winter, and spends the shoulder seasons getting ahead of whichever one is coming. The job has a rhythm rather than a routine, and that is the appeal of it or it is not. What we would most like to find is a licensed massage therapist who keeps about 20 hours a week on the table and runs the business the rest of the time — ideally someone from the medical or clinical side of massage rather than the spa-relaxation side. You keep your hands in the work and the tips on the services you perform. That is a preference, not a requirement: if you are the right manager and you have never given a massage, apply anyway. There is somewhere to go from here, and it is the reason the medical background matters. River's Edge is not only a spa — there is a medical practice on the other side of the building, run by Ashley Sutton, FNP-MSN, doing injectables, peptides, hormone work and lasers. Someone who arrives understanding clinical work, charting and why the protocol exists can move toward that side over time. We would rather grow that person than hire one later. The second half of the job matters more than the first. We have grown faster than our processes have. Some of how we work is written down and followed; plenty of it still lives in one person's head and breaks the week they are away. We are looking for someone who notices that, writes the thing down, teaches it, and then holds people to it — a process that is actually used, not a binder nobody opens. And it is people, not just rotas. Hiring alongside us, running the day to day on the floor, and having the awkward conversation while it is still small. Two honest notes. These are two separate businesses with separate books, not one business with two rooms, and you will be expected to keep them straight. And Durango is a town of about 19,000 in southwest Colorado — smaller than wherever you are now, winters are real, and the nearest big airport is not close. River's Edge Wellness Center is a spa and medical practice under one roof in downtown Durango. We're hiring a full-time licensed massage therapist. You get a room that stays yours through your shift, a table that is properly maintained, and a front desk that protects your turnaround time. Laundry, product and booking are handled, so you can focus on bodywork.
Expected annual earnings with tips: about $79,000 to $85,000, based on what a current full-time therapist here earns. Tips vary.
We already offer sound healing and we already have people booking it. What we do not have is someone whose practice it is. Right now it sits on the menu at $150 for a 45-minute one-on-one and $175 for couples, alongside acupuncture and the Eastern side of the practice. It is booked through Boulevard like every other service, in a treatment room in a wellness centre — not a pop-up in a rented studio, and not something we are trying out to see whether anyone wants it. This is a part-time, session-based role, and we are honest that the demand is still being built. The right person is someone with their own practice and their own following who wants a room, a booking system, a front desk that answers the phone, and a clientele walking past the door for massage and acupuncture already. You bring the bowls and the practice; we bring the building and the calendar. There is room to shape it. If you want to run group sound baths as well as one-on-ones, or pair sessions with the massage and acupuncture side, we are open to it — nobody here is protecting a fixed menu. You have actual say in what we offer, what we stock, and how a treatment plan is built. The injectable side of this practice is not a fixed menu you inherit; it is something you will shape. We would rather train a careful injector than inherit a fast one.

This is an unusual job and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Half of it is the front desk — greeting people, booking, and the daily puzzle of a full treatment board. The other half is building the systems that make the first half easier. We run this place on Claude, and the person in this seat will use it every day: drafting the schedule, chasing inventory, pulling the numbers, and taking repetitive work off everyone else's plate. We are looking for someone who cares about beauty and wellness and is genuinely good with technology. That combination is rare, which is exactly why this posting reads the way it does. If you have ever automated something for the fun of it, or been the person your last job called when the software broke, and you also care how a room feels when someone walks into it, we would like to meet you. It starts at the desk. It grows into running operations. How fast that happens is mostly up to you.
